Society would lead us to believe that if we are not doing the same as everyone else then there is something “wrong” with us, we may be ridiculed for having a different frame of mind, or a different way in which we look at the world, and the people within the world. But in reality what would be unique about that??

How boring would life be if we were all doing the same thing? If we were all chasing the same goal, with the same eventual outcome. How would life be if we all had the same dreams and visions for life? We are all different for a reason, it does not make anyone of us better than another, but what it does allow for is a unique viewpoint which is different from our own. It allows us to take in the opinions of others, but not necessarily change who we see ourselves to be as a person.

Part of loving ourselves, is understanding who we are and what we stand for, it is standing strong in our conviction of who we see ourselves to be, and not be swayed by the many opinions of who another see us to be, or how they believe that we should act or behave to fit in to a “society” who lets face it have a hard time fitting in themselves.

I for one have never been one to follow trends, as I am a believer that by creating my own trends it makes me unique from what society believes I should be doing. Therefore, where I once believed that part of my mission was to sing from the top of the mountain, about what it means to be positive, and have self love, the reality hit, that self love is not something which is an easy task to accomplish. We all view Self Love in a different way, that makes us unique, my way is right for me, while another way may be right for another. It is by having different views that make us both unique in our outlook.

Self love is developing a deeper understanding of who you are, this will require you to lose friends, be classed as eccentric, have beliefs which will define you as different and this is all before you have even begun the reality of what it means to be you and embrace who you actually see yourself to be. You may even find that those who have even half accomplished the journey of self love, form much smaller circles and have a limited number of people who they refer to as “friends”. This is usually due to not many others being able to embrace your uniqueness.

To be unique, does not make you better than anyone else, although there we be times as I heard on many occasions “who does she thinks she is” or “she thinks she knows it all” Time will allow a deeper understanding of these comments, as while you may not know it all, there will always be something about you that us unique in the way that you are able to deliver information as this is what will make you unique, this is what makes us all unique. Therefore embrace these comments just as much as you embrace your uniqueness.

If you find yourself on a journey in which others question your abilities, skills or views of the world, just remember this is another projecting their insecurities onto you. It is their perception of how they see the world and there is nothing wrong with this. What will make you unique in a case such as this, is allowing another to have their opinion without feeling the need to defend your opinion. We are all unique after all.

To embrace your uniqueness is one step that self love will require in order for you to feel some level of peace within, it is knowing that you are doing things for you, which make you feel comfortable. It is reviewing the steps that you want to take which will benefit you. It is not controlled by what others think you should be doing, it is not the opinions of others that push you forward, but rather the opinions which you have created for ourselves.

There will be those who will disagree with you, those who will be co-dependant on you listening to what they believe is best for your life. And while we must not disregard the help and understanding that happens when we may need another, we must always remember that fundamentally it is our uniqueness that drives all of the decisions we make in life.

Although uniqueness is about connecting with ourselves this does not mean we should discredit the opinions of others who may allow us to see ourselves in a more empowering manner. Our beliefs do not change based on another, but they may allow us to question our beliefs in terms of “ am I living my life in the most loving way”.

Wherever you are on the journey of embracing your uniqueness, remember that you are you, you have something that no one else has in the world. You bring wisdom to all of the lives that you touch by being you, whether your choice is to follow the protocols of society or if you are standing out and making your own unique impact in the world!

No matter what life throws at you, keep on embracing your uniqueness, it is what makes you, You!

Love, Light and Blessings
